Mechanical Engineer

Scope of position

Under the guidance of the Sr. Mechanical Engineer, the Mechanical Engineer will provide technical support for a team dedicated to designing and developing new products for the Company.

Essential function/responsibilities

  • Creation of product design sketches/models that conceptualize the mechanical design of a product, using experience and data to ensure that the design concept will meet with the intended objectives. The objectives may include both technical specifications and aesthetic characteristics
  • Development of complex mechanical designs through all phases of product development. The primary job output will be SolidWorks 3D models and 2D drawings of components and assemblies
  • Generate Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to release product documentation into the documentation control process. As this position is often the final touch-point before documentation enters the document control approval process, it is expected that the ECOs and documentation generated will be compliant with the company’s standard operating procedures and virtually error-free
  • Complete design concepts, prototypes, analytical results, verification and documentation according to FDA regulation and ISO standards.
  • Design and integrate electro-mechanical components to meet product requirements
  • Designs, develops, analyzes and documents product designs which meet the functional, cost, reliability, manufacturability and safety requirements of the company
  • Effectively communicates information to co-workers which they require to do their jobs. This communication must be objective and accomplished in a neutral to positive manner
  • Develop procedures and Conduct verification and life testing of electro-mechanical components


  • Ability to use industry standard CAD systems for design and documentation
  • Ability to use CFD systems for design and analysis.
  • Ability to analyze components and assemblies for static and fatigue strength to meet design goals
  • Ability to correctly use standard test and measurement equipment design margins and problems
  • Ability to identify, quantify and permanently resolve problems
  • Ability to handle simultaneous tasks in a fast environment
  • Ability to use Windows-based PCs and standard software applications

Required education/experience

  • 3+ years experience in designing mechanical assemblies using CAD software (Solidworks preferred)
  • 3+ years design experience in medical device or other regulatory controlled industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Product Design Engineering. Advanced degree highly desirable
  • Minimum of 3 years of product design/engineering experience, including the use of standard mechanical engineering analysis and software (i.e. FEA, kinematics and tolerance analysis)
  • Possess strong knowledge of mechanics, dynamics and thermodynamics
  • Experience in design for manufacturability and assembly
  • Experience with the design and manufacture of plastic molded parts
  • Experience with the design and manufacture of sheet metal, bent tube and welded components
  • Experience in basic machining (lathe, mill, etc) and other general machine shop tools

Working conditions

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee may be required to use a computer for up to 8 hours consecutively
  • General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time
  • The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate
  • Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available
  • Must be able to able to read, write, and communicate in English. Must have good vision
  • Travel may be required
